“Millions of people are affected by the climate crisis every single day but there is no action and I have stopped waiting for any. We, the youth will take action. We will unite and organise for a just and equitable future.” – Disha Ravi

Disha Ravi is one of the founding members of Fridays For Future India. Her story of observing her grandparents who are farmers struggling with the effects of climate change from her early childhood and finally deciding to do something about it actively is truly inspirational.

On today’s episode, we talk about her motivation to join climate activism, the importance of climate education, how activism has transformed in the age of “social distancing” and what is 1.5 and why it matters.

Namaste, Welcome to Inside Traveller’s Shoes! I’m Prerana, a brown-eyed girl from the vast land of many cultures – India. Just as much as I’m starstruck with the world and all the beauty it contains, I am proud of my own origins and love my country immensely. And I’m not here to tell you another story of how I quit my job to travel the world. Because frankly, I never had a “typical” one to begin with.

So, what would you normally find here, you ask? I suppose scribbles on life and experiences – as I gulp it one day at a time; things that make my soul flutter and everything that brings me happiness – a large part of which includes travel. For I do hope in some way, you’ll find your truth and yourself through it all. And it helps you “live your own extraordinary tale”.

My reels may not be top-notch but my memories are ✨✨✨

Sing With La Guitarra

Valerie - Mark Ronson feat. Amy Winehouse

Days where we could sing songs in pretty places are not distant anymore 💕

A sunny day in Manali with Ido, Manu & Noy. We sat on the stairs of buildings, with the Himalayas surrounding us and filled this day with songs. 🎶

PS- Did you notice the birds whistling the song? 🎶🐦

On an evening walk to soak in a bit of essence of Bir, I visited the Chokling Monastery to spend some time in my own company, observing life as it passes by.

These are some of the moments that brought a smile to my face, after catching a cold and not feeling like I had done much and days were just passing by sick.

And finally when I felt a little bit of strength returning to my body, it's so fascinating to notice how a simple walk around in the village can lift your spirits up instantly.

So, tell me what brings calmness to your soul?

Sometime last year after I had fractured my shoulder and the doctor told it was okay for me to start using my hands to draw again, I was ecstatic!

My hands were itching to create magic after almost two months of rest. It was also a time of contemplation for me, rethinking what I was drawn towards the most, the one I could now call my calling. And it happened to be “Lettering”.

The art of decorative letters was fascinating and the myriad of ways I could draw the same 26 of them to convey moods on any part of the spectrum. I took @aureliemaron‘s courses to refine my skills to take up more client work.

One of my first projects was to create a Studio Sign for “Inside Traveller’s Shoes” which would act as a platform for both my Travel and Art Ventures.

My inspiration was to incorporate Neon Signs and the Wild West and I am extremely happy with this result.

So tell me, What ignites your soul on fire lately?

Earlier this year, on our Goa roadtrip, we decided to stay at a Family Run Homestay by the Riverside in Honnavar.

Here’s how living in a Homestay added a “New Dimension” to our stay in Honnavar:

👉🏼 We got to have yum home-cooked local meals and learnt more about the diet of the people in this region.

👉🏼 Day turned into night as we spend our evening boat watching.

👉🏼 We woke up early to observe the fog rising through the Sharavati river while we sat and watched the Sun slowly fill the sky in its light in the morning.

👉🏼 Being present in the moment and observing the time pass us by ever so slowly and experiencing “The Slow Life”.

Here’s a glimpse of what awaited us at Sunrise the next morning. 🌞

Would you choose a Homestay next time you travel?
